It is with a great deal of sadness that we must announce that Tower City have
been forced to withdraw from the 2014 show. Tower City are a band that we had
desperately tried to persuade for many years to play for us , and having finally
agreed to play the Final Fling in 2014, the reality is that it was not possible
to deliver the show that we (Firefest), they (Tower City) and you (the fans)
deserve. Despite numerous conversations with all of the band members, it simply
was not to be. Please read the official statement from Tower City lead singer
and guitarist Larry Saltis outlining his reasons why he feels the band must
“This message may be a bit of a disappointment to you. But, it is more disappointing for me and the guys of Tower City. After careful consideration and with the utmost sincerity, I regret to inform you that Tower City will not be a part of FireFest 2014. The reason for this decision is based on the fact I am simply not able to perform the material vocally. The opportunity to perform at FireFest was not taken lightly and the original members were all excited and looking forward to the show. We were especially looking forward to seeing and performing for the true Tower City fans out there. However, the singer (me) is not fit to sing like he did 23 years ago. This is a harsh reality - but, it is the truth. I wish I had a more interesting reason for our withdrawal, but I don’t. The decision to withdraw from FireFest is on me. Therefore, I apologize for the inconvenience I may have caused you and all the people behind the scenes at FireFest 2014. . I also send my apologies to my bandmates (Heath, Tim and Scott) with all due respect. But, if Tower City was ever going to perform again, we were going to make sure that we could deliver the best show possible to the fans, to the entire FireFest faculty and, especially, to Kieran Dargan. We have always looked at performing “live” the same way – to sound better than the records even did. This may be a tall order, but, it is what the fans deserve and it is what the members of Tower City deserve. So, if I can’t sing the stuff, the show can’t go on. Thank you once again for your support and for including Tower City in your last festival. We are honored by your enthusiasm to have included us in the long list of acts. Mostly, we thank you for believing we could deliver a great show for you.”
Following the withdrawal of Tower City the search was on to find a suitable replacement act, a band that would not only aspire to the same high standards as Tower City in terms of performance, but a band that had an established pedigree of sublime song writing combined with glorious hooks and a dedicated place in history as the very first band EVER to take the stage at Donington back in 1980. Hands up all those among us that witnessed the beginning of the greatest rock festival in history – and especially those of us that saw an up and coming American band open the show that day – TOUCH. Led by Mark Mangold (American Tears, Drive She Said) and Doug Howard (Stun Leer, Todd Rungren, Edgar Winter), TOUCH established not only a place in history by being the first band ever to grace the stage at Donnington , but also their debut album gained special praise from Derek Oliver in his Wimp Wire all time Top 40, charting at number 28 and to this very day remains a genre classic with songs such as ‘Don’t You Know What Love Is, ‘Spirit’, ‘ Love Don’t Fail Me’, ‘Black Star’ and many more. Following a chance conversation with Mark Mangold, phone calls were made and both leaders of the band, Mark And Doug, were keen on performing for what they call “the most amazing audience in the world”. Original vocalist Craig Brooks has not been involved in the music business for many years so the search was on to find not only a suitable replacement but someone who could perhaps even raise the bar. Enter possibly one of the finest vocalists in the world of melodic hard rock and AOR - GORAN EDMAN (Glory, Yngwie Malmsteen, Street Talk, John Norum, Brazen Abbott). Goran Edman is one of the few vocalists in the world that could sing the telephone directory and hold an entire audience spellbound such is his unrivalled prowess as a singer. Also joining TOUCH is long time Firefest performer and all round good guy Tommy Denander who will be bringing his immense talent to bear on the already rich songbook created by TOUCH. (hey, did anyone see the guitar solo on Toto’s White Sister during the Legends set last year – wow!!). So sadly we lose a band that we were all looking forward to seeing, but equally we are delighted that TOUCH will now play for us on Sunday October 26th in the same slot.
Look forward to seeing you all at FIREFEST!

FIREFEST – THE FINAL FLING 2014
The line-up announcement for the final Firefest will take place on SUNDAY NOVEMBER 24TH on ARFM RADIO (www.arfm.co.uk) on the Steve Price Rock Show starting at 6pm GMT (7pm CET/1pm EST/10am West Coast). Running for a massive 4 hours plus, listen in as the line-up is revealed band by band with guest interviews from all of the bands playing the show as well as, of course, plenty of music. As this is the final Firefest, the interest level in the show has been nothing short of phenomenal so far. All VIP packages and VIP tickets are SOLD OUT and with 400 weekend tickets already sold without a single band being announced, there will be less than 1000 tickets for each day available to purchase.
Tickets can be purchased in a number of ways and full ticketing details are available on the Firefest web site www.firefestofficial.com. We are not going to give away any clues at this point, only we fell it is one of the strongest line ups Firefest has ever assembled and there IS something for every fan that calls themselves a fan of hard rock, melodic hard rock and of course AOR. There is absolutely no doubt that this show will sell out well in advance and it is advisable that if you intend to come along to get your tickets to the show as soon as possible.
There will be a little added extra for all those that have bought tickets through blind faith – the first 250 of that bought tickets (including sponsors and VIPs) will all be attending a very special acoustic evening on Saturday October 25th – something which no-one will want to miss as it will be a very special performance by … well, we are not saying until Sunday. And for the first 250 people that purchase tickets after the line-up is announced we again have something a little special in store for you on FRIDAY October 24th – another (different) acoustic show … well, two actually, by … well, again we’re keeping that under wraps until Sunday! Fancy a sing-along – then this is right up your street, we guarantee it.
Drop by our Facebook page Firefest Official Group – the natives are a real nice bunch – and of course remember, this coming Saturday Nov 23rd on the Steve Price Rock Show will be the final 3 unsigned bands all vying to open FIREFEST 2014 – every vote counts and you can vote on our Facebook page. After all, the winners will be playing for YOU.
Cheers – The Crew

As the last Firefest beckons, we have looked back over the years with a huge sense of pride and achievement. We were wondering what we could do just to make that last Firefest a little bit special considering we had to sadly refuse a LOT of bands the opportunity to play the show due to the fact that we simply could not fit everybody in. During a discussion with some of the bands, we were remembering the “good old days” – touring the toilets of the world and of course the good old “buy on” – basically where bands pay to be part of a particular tour – just to get the opportunity to play in front of a decent crowd, a practice that Firefest has never agreed with.
Bearing that in mind, Firefest is going to make the dream come true for ONE UNSIGNED UK melodic hard rock/AOR band by offering them the chance to OPEN the FIREFEST 2014 show. This is our way of helping out the up and coming bands that are struggling to get out there and play live in front of a dedicated audience. The criteria?
1. The band must be un signed to any record company
2. The band must be available to play on October 24th 2014
3. Musically the band MUST fit the melodic hard rock/AOR format of Firefest
4. The band must be UK based
So how does it work? We want you to send us your EPKs or demos, including a full band biography, before Thursday November 14th. The Firefest team will listen to everything we receive and we will select 6 bands to be considered.
Having selected the final 6 bands, each band will be featured on the Steve Price Rock Show on www.arfm.co.uk broadcasting on Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6pm to 9pm GMT.
The first three bands will be featured on Saturday November 16th and the second three bands will be featured on Sunday November 17th
This will be a public vote – bands of course are free to garner as much support as they can – details of how and where to vote will follow shortly – please check on www.firefestofficial.com and Firefest Official Group on Facebook for the details.
Once all 6 bands have been featured, the top three bands with the most votes will go forward to the final vote .The remaining three bands will be featured on the Steve Price rock show on Saturday November 23rd and bands can once again garner all the support they wish – but final voting closes on Monday November 25th – after which the band with the most votes will open the FIREFEST 2014 show in front of, hopefully, a full house at Rock City.
We would encourage EVERYONE to vote, especially Firefest patrons, as essentially the winner will be playing in front of YOU. We hope this opportunity to open the FINAL FIREFEST will help an unsigned band to establish a foothold, however small, in the live arena and most of all an opportunity to rock in front of a dedicated melodic hard rock audience.
Please submit all Electronic Press Kits/mp3s to firstname.lastname@example.org with “UNSIGNED” CLEARLY MARKED IN THE HEADING – otherwise it will not be read.
Good luck to all the unsigned bands out there, we look forward to welcoming one of you to FIREFEST 2104 as an artist.

We have had an absolutely phenomenal response - yes seriously - with well over 30 bands entering. Reducing that number to just 6 bands was impossible considering the extremely high standard of all the bands, so we have decided that we will increase the initial number of bands to TEN. The first 5 bands will be played on the Steve Price Rock Show on ARFM this Saturday, November 16th and the second 5 bands will be played on Sunday November 17th. The top THREE will go forward to the final on Saturday November 23rd - and the winner will be announced in early December. The winner of course will open FIREFEST 2014. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU LISTEN IN AND CAST YOUR VOTE - it's vitally important as essentially the winner will be playing for YOU on Oct 24th 2014. Don't leave it to others to vote - Please make sure that you have YOUR SAY - and also help give a young band a chance to play in front of the BEST audience in the world. Full details of how and where to vote posted shortly - but be sure to tune into WWW.ARFM.CO.UK on Saturday and Sunday November 16th and 17th - the Steve Price Rock Show - 6pm to 9pm (GMT), 7pm to 10pm (CET). Here's YOUR chance to pick a band for the final line up!
